Florida Keys Remain Under Tropical Storm Watch

Elsa prompted Gov. Ron DeSantis to declare a state of emergency in 15 Florida counties: Miami-Dade, Monroe, Charlotte, Citrus, Collier, DeSoto, Hardee, Hernando, Hillsborough, Lee, Levy, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas and Sarasota.

“The threat posed by Elsa requires that timely precautions are taken to protect the communities, critical infrastructure, and general welfare of Florida,” DeSantis’ executive order reads.

The complete list of ‘essential businesses’ in each South Florida county

While Gov. Ron DeSantis finally issued a statewide stay-at-home order Wednesday, here in South Florida, he had already done so a few days before, shuttering all nonessential businesses.

That followed various county and city orders that did the same but with key differences — and that meant confusion over what is considered “essential.”
