Art & Life with Lee Smith

Lee Smith, Lee Smith Photography, Landscape Photography, Broward Photographer,

VoyageMIA did an article about me in their interview section today: http://voyagemia.com/interview/art-life-lee-smith/

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lee Smith.

Lee, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was born and raised in Miami, FL. I enjoyed the outdoors starting at a young age. My photography career began when I was about ten years old with a little Kodak Instamatic camera. I would take that thing with me everywhere I went but could only take a few photos because the cost to buy and develop film, but I had fun, and my parents and sister enjoyed my photos.

I became a bit more serious with my photography after I graduated High School. In 1974, I would carry a camera when my friends were carrying surfboards to the beach. I would photograph the beach life from the shoreline as they surfed. Made loads for friends and had a great deal of fun. A few years ago, I posted some of those photos on Facebook, and my old friends went crazy looking at the old memories when times were so much simpler.

There was a break in my photography efforts due to work and education. It wasn’t until my marriage that I started shooting again. We would go out to different events, hang with friends and eventually honeymoon in Costa Rica. I would shoot when I wasn’t working. We eventually started our family having two children, and my photography was focused on my wife & kids. I spent a great deal of time capturing my kids growing up from behind the lens and have so many wonderful shots. It wasn’t until 2005 that I started shooting digitally with an inexpensive Canon A620 flip screen that changed my views on photography.

Today, I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark 4 with a select group of quality lens. After my kids moved out, I focus on landscape photography, capturing the Florida sunrises, wildlife, and trips with my wife out west.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
What I create. I really enjoy a beautiful sunrise. I try to visit different places to capture how the morning light evolves into a day with the changing colors of the morning.

I also enjoy capturing the night skies, cityscapes, and the moon on occasion.
How do I create my work?
I use a Canon EOS 5D Mark 4 and a Sony A6500 to capture images and timelapses. I use Adobe Photoshop to process the images to get them looking like what I saw.

Why?
I enjoy making capturing images and producing something that makes people smile and to bring a little happiness back into this world.

What’s the message or inspiration?
My message is to enjoy this beautiful world we live in. To treat it with respect, because mankind is destroying this planet at a rapid pace. The images I capture of places may one day become only a memory of what once stood in that spot.

What do you hope people take away from it?
I hope my photos inspire us to recognize that we all have a responsibility to protect the places we live in. We are all shepherds of this earth. We need to do our best to clean up after ourselves and not pollute the environment. Mankind has done terrible things to this world. It is up to us and future generations to protect this planet.

What should we know about your artwork?
I love what I do, and I spend an enormous amount of time capturing my images. I hope my images inspire people to slow down, take a deep breath and to enjoy the moment.

What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
Yes, it can be lonely being a landscape photographer, but I think that can be part of the allure of being a photographer.

I have found that it’s easy to meet up with other photographers by simply introducing yourself and find out where others may be on a weekend shoot on social media like Facebook & Instagram, Or just go to the places people post images and you will find people there on the weekends photographing something – Landscapes, wildlife, sports, and events.

Now landscape photography is much different than photographing a wedding, an event, portraits, sporting events, real estate or any other photographic avenues. The best thing about photography is that you can pick and choose what you wish to do and what you like to photograph. Photography is a passion. It can display your character or even your soul. The main thing is to have fun and enjoy the time you are out with your camera.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I have several Social Media accounts that people can follow me on:
Facebookhttps://www.facebook.com/LeeSmithPhotos/

Flickr https://www.flickr.com/photos/smittysholdings/

Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/leesmithphotos2017/

Currently, I only have my artwork for sale on my website https://www.leesmithphotos.com/.
I am looking into several galleries to start showing my work.

Cement Pavers Must be Sealed to Prevent Fading

National Sealing Co. - Commercial Sealing and Coating Applications

Coating pavers versus sealing – our unique, clear, coating process is 3-5x more durable than common sealers. This can be used to protect limestone, sealing of granite, sealing of travertine, sealing of blue stone, sealing protection for stamped concrete. Our coating process can also be applied to the entire surface to seal ceramic tile & grout, seal porcelain tiles. Our coating process is designed to Preserve, Protect and Prolong your asset life cycle by extending the life expectancy of your property, plus contribute to the ease of maintenance of these surfaces, thereby reducing cleaning costs and preserving the surface material.

After the unique dyeing & sealing process

Cement Pavers Must be Sealed to Prevent Fading - after treatmentCement Pavers Must be Sealed to Prevent Fading - after treatment

Pavers that are not sealed annually will fade. Typically it only takes 5-7 years before they will show very noticeable signs of lost color. Most people don’t realize this until it’s too late. In the past, the only thing available to restore faded pavers, would be to STAIN the pavers. Staining paver amounts to PAINTING pavers. The previous solution of staining pavers results in an un-natural painted look, the surface is slippery, and typically does not last long, especially vehicular pavers as the paint will lift with hot tires.

We have to promote our process as ‘staining’, for the search engines. However, our process is a unique paver dyeing process. You’ve seen painted sidewalks that require constant re-painting or re-staining. Staining pavers is the same as painting a sidewalk, which is why we developed our paver dyeing process. Our process penetrates into the faded paver for long lasting results. Consider having to SEAL pavers every year. We’re seeing results of 5+ years with our patented paver dyeing process.

For this reason, we have developed a DYEING process to restore faded pavers. National Sealing is the largest paver sealing Co in the US and mobilizes across the US and abroad with our patented Paver DYEING Process. Our process not only restores badly faded pavers to give new life, but also seals and protects from further fading & staining.

Downtown Davie in the middle of a housing boom

With five projects either on the drawing board or in the final construction phase, Davie is in the middle of a housing boom

“We’re on the right path,” said Phillip R. Holste, Davie’s assistant town administrator and interim director of the Community Redevelopment Agency. “If you look at the downtown, we haven’t seen redevelopment like this in decades. It’s exciting to see the vision that’s been developed actually come to fruition.”

From Home-Based Writer to Music Festival Camper Blogger, How to (Re)Create Your Brand

From Home-Based Writer to Music Festival Camper Blogger, How to (Re)Create Your BrandBy Jeff Zbar

As I was sitting in my RV camping at a music festival recently, it dawned on me: I’m a work of evolutionary forces. I’m also an example of how business works in the 21st Century. Almost 30 years ago, I started working from home as a journalist and corporate copywriter. Twenty years ago, I coined the term “Chief Home Officer” for home-based entrepreneurs and teleworkers who worked from home or the road, and I launched a blog and wrote four books on the subject. Last year, I created RoadtripMojo.com to promote my latest adventure – visiting music festivals by RV.

Each adventure became a social media exercise and potentially profitable venture. Very little “treasure” (or actualy money) was needed. Mostly, I deployed time and talent, and a host of tools available for free on the Internet.

How can you brand your business using the internet, social media, and a healthy dose of sweat equity?

  • Find a brand – and name – that works. From ChiefHomeOfficer to www.GotWords.com to www.RoadtripMojo.com, I spent time to search for and research domain names that were keyword rich, spoke to my audience, and were available as a .com URL (or website) and on social media. A great name’s no good if it’s not available or doesn’t serve your purposes.
  • Invest time and labor. Setting up a WordPress website, a Facebook business page, an Instagram account, or a Snapchat profile doesn’t cost any money. But that doesn’t make them “free.” Done well, you’ll invest time writing, designing, gathering and posting photographs, and handling the other efforts needed to create the online image of your brand. You’ll also hopefully invest time to learn how to use the search and marketing tools social media provides. Again, they’re “free.” But they’ll cost your time.
  • Have fun with it. This serves two important purposes. The more you know your market, the more of an expert you’ll be. You’ll write with authority, and might attract marketing partners willing to pay you to run their ads on your media or to be a “Subject Matter Expert” they might hire to help promote their own efforts. But more importantly, if it’s fun you won’t see it as work.

So, what’s your brand? And what are you doing to build it from a thought you conjured up on the couch or campsite to something people are willing to follow or invest in? Answer that, and you’re on your way to a fun and rewarding brand-building adventure.

Jeff Zbar is a Florida-based journalist, corporate copywriter, event blogger, and married empty-nester who travels the country by RV visiting music festivals and enjoying the open road. Learn more at www.roadtripmojo.com or www.gotwords.com.
