This seems to be the Season of the Swordfish. In the May issue of Sport Fishing, you’ll read about two amazing broadbill catches, one a midday catch off Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, when a big swordy hit a tuna angler’s bait near the surface, and the other a 250-pounder from 25 feet off water off Key Biscayne in South Florida. A few days ago, I recall reading of a larger swordfish taken in only about 300 feet of water off the Fort Lauderdale area.
Now comes word of what may be the largest swordfish yet landed on sport-fishing tackle in the daytime off the Florida Keys. Last Sunday, a whopping 520-pounder was weighed in.
