Senator Eleanor Sobel Letter

Dear Friends,

“Less government.” “Less regulation.” “More freedom.”

In lockstep rhythm, the hard-right wing, opponents of a woman’s right to choose chant these slogans in a vain attempt to mask their hypocrisy.

In open defiance of their own mantra and for the second year in a row, we see a legislative body hell-bent on imposing more government, more regulation, and less freedom for the women of our state.

In a show of excess, Florida lawmakers are poised to pass another in a series of sweeping “reforms” that seek to openly deny a woman her constitutionally protected right to end an unwanted pregnancy. (SB 290) As if this decision facing a woman was not already painful enough, these new hurdles include new and unnecessary regulatory burdens on health care providers, an intrusive and demeaning waiting period, as well as so-called “ethics” training for doctors who perform abortions.

As the only woman on the Health Regulation Committee, I feel it is my duty to stand up and fight for women’s rights. Wednesday, I fought with every ounce of energy in an attempt to thwart their efforts to relegate women in need to second-class citizenry.

…and I will continue to fight this bad bill all the way to the floor.

Please help me.

Please take a moment to call (850-488-7146) or email Governor Rick Scott and ask him to veto this infringement on the rights of women.

I am willing to fight this fight, but without your help, we cannot succeed.
