Key Largo Fishing Report from Capt Dana Banks

Well everyone ….. yes I have been slacking on the reports. Sorry !!!!   I’ve been busy fishing. The blackfin tunas have been good and the sizes are in the 15 pound and greater range.  Live bait chumming pilchards and ballyhoo have been bringing the fish up in the late afternoon and morning. Midday bite has brought mutton snapper and the throw-back grouper due to the closure until May 1.  They have been nice sized fish and it hurts to release them but we have had some great fun fighting them. And on that note, one day we were out on the patches and  we caught about 35 gag groupers in the range of 4 to 10 lbs. so it looks like they are making a good come back .

The patch reefs have been producing plenty of dinner fish, nice mangrove snappers, actually limiting out on some days, a few hog fish, and porgies, which are a good eating fish. There is a lot of action with other fish like cero mackerel.

The weather has been cooperating, with a few breezy days but none that were not fishable. We have had such a mild winter even for  the Florida Keys ………… !!!   Actually its outstanding so on that note let’s go fishing ….!!!!
