Team Earns ‘Contagious’ Victory at Captain’s Cup Sailfish Tournament

(Dec. 14, 2011 – ISLAMORADA, Florida Keys)… Team Contagious took home top honors and a $12,000 check after the ninth annual Islamorada Fishing Club Captain’s Cup Sailfish Tournament Dec. 8.

Led by Captain Brian Cone of Islamorada, anglers John Timura of Islamorada, Greg Toplin of Key Largo, Fla., and Travis Bennett of Tavernier, Fla., scored seven releases in the shortest time for the win.

The victory earned the team an invitation to the 2012 IGFA Offshore World Championship in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Second place went to Wet Dream with Captain Scott Stoky of Key Largo at the helm. Team members were Frank Juliano of Key Largo, Sam Worden of Traverse City, Mich., and Islamorada’s Kevin Clark. They released seven sails, but finished behind Contagious based on time.

Third place went to Challenger 2 with Captain Rob Dixon of Marathon, Fla. Anglers Jesse Leboeuf and Dan Flynn of Tavernier and Brian Devries of Grand Rapids, Mich., released six sails.

A total of 36 sailfish from 44 hook-ups were released during the one-day event.
