Key Largo Fishing Report – 12-09-11

by Captain Dana Banks

Fishing has been great the past week!  The winds are still blowing bringing bait fish to the surface. The sails have been hitting the live bait in the blue water.  There have been some incredible battles catching and releasing our fair share of Sailfish.

We have also been running into schools of Mahi Mahi, taking some nice sized fish – 20-35 lb range. It seems every time we go out, we are catching Dolphin. Some of the catches have been real battles, but so much fun.

We are seeing some kings now and then, along with schooling mackerel chasing bait fish – so live bait seems to be working well.

Talking to other Captains, there are plenty of Grouper and Snapper on the reefs and wrecks at night.

The weather conditions have been on the rough side due to the windy conditions and passing fronts. The temperatures on the water are mild, although we get hit with a rain squall here and there.

The good news is that the fishing looks great for December.
