Forecasters on Friday evening upgraded the status of a strong tropical weather system currently over the Dominican Republic.

They are calling this Tropical Storm – Fay – It will become the sixth named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season.

Tropical Storm Fay is dumping rain with 40 mph wind gusts over Hispaniola as it travels towards Haiti. The governments of the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Cuba issued tropical storm warnings.

The system will likely impact Florida by early next week. The latest forecast shows Fay approaching the Florida Keys sometime Monday night and riding up to Florida's West Coast by Tuesday morning – all depending on it's path which is subject to change.
