Fort Lauderdale, Fla. – September 15, 2009 – A new advancement in solar power technology is enabling swimming pool owners to take their pumps off the electrical grid, save thousands of dollars – and help the environment.

State officials, announcing long-awaited details of its latest “cash for clunker” program Friday, said Floridians could snare a $1,500 flat fee rebate for replacing their central air conditioning systems with more energy efficient units starting this month.

The program opens Aug. 30, and will run through the end of the year or until the $15 million the Governor’s Energy Office set aside for it runs out.

There is a catch..
The Energy Star air-conditioning program is tied to duct system inspections – so you may need to contact a Florida Class 1 rated, a Florida licensed mechanical contractor, or a recognized test and balance agent. This could cost a few hundred dollars out of your pocket.

Plus you could still qualify for an FP&L rebate.

Red-light camera tickets drop with new law

Mercifully, at least one South Florida city has stepped on the brakes when it comes to overzealous enforcement at red-light camera intersections.

Hallandale Beach’s lone red-light camera has generated more than $1.3 million in fines since it went live in January, but there has been a huge decrease in right-turn violations since a new state law took effect on July 1.
