PeopleTek - Habits For Success

PeopleTek
Leadership tip of the week: Habits For Success

Dear Leaders,

Our habits impact our lives and careers both negatively and positively.  What we need to objectively assess is which are impeding our ability to succeed and which are keeping us on track to realize our goals and dreams.

If you've graduated from PeopleTek's Leadership Journey™ program you've been told that once you identify a habit or behavior that is not working for you, you must replace it with one that gets positive results.  This is recommended as it keeps us from regressing back to what is familiar to us (albeit counterproductive!).

Habits allow us to save time; we don't need to think about what we're doing, we merely "do it".  But is this serving us well?  What can we change to become more disciplined and focused and not be on "automatic pilot"?

  • So what can you do?  Start replacing your non productive behaviors with those that will help you achieve the results you desire.
  • If you're consistently late for meetings set an alarm on your laptop, watch, phone, etc.
  • Post notes in your office reminding you of what TO do.
  • Block out time in your daily calendar and use that time to return phone calls and emails.
  • Use your goals to set priorities.
  • Organize your day; determine what must get done and abide by your task list.
  • Add your personal tasks to your calendar.   Ex. Gym time,  call home,  dinner-time,  etc

Ultimately what you need to do is decide what habits work for you, replace those that don't work for you, and commit to making the positive changes that help you achieve success!

Sincerely,
Michael W. Kublin and
Jan Mayer-Rodriguez

"The individual who wants to reach the top in business must appreciate the might of force and habit. He must be quick to break those habits that can break him - and hasten to adopt those practices that will become the habits that help him achieve the success he desires."

- J. Paul Getty

——————————

Some common unproductive habits include:

  • Procrastination
  • Consistently being late
  • Interrupting instead of listening
  • Multi-tasking when full focus is required
  • Ignoring life / work balance
  • Failure to set goals (or not making the goals your priority)
  • Allowing phone calls and emails to divert your attention
  • Not returning phone calls
  • Disregarding commitments
  • Not sleeping enough

Lake Okeechobee Water Level Update

Tag: Generaladmin @ 10:21 am

Lake Okeechobee is filling fast, the question is how high will it go?

It hit 14 feet today! The Lake has increased more than 2 feet this month, according to the South Florida Water Management District.

The Lake has been drastically low for months, now the Army Corps of Engineers are worried that the aging levee is in question if the lake rises too high! It could leak from erosion and breach. So the decision has been made to slowly drain the lake to a more managable level.

Tropical Storm Fay dumped a record amount of water - 2.5 ft in one week. The fastest one week climb in the 77 years of keeping records about the lake.

The lake is still more than a foot short of its historical average, but the hurricane season is not over. The lake supplies fresh water to over 5 million residents of South Florida.
